What a fabulous story.  This book is perfect for that inbetween age.  Ages 8 and up is where I'd place the story.  It does have some larger words in it that may confuse an 8 year old but with mom's help it can easily be read by someone in that age.

The book is very short for a Novel only about 120 pages.  The main character Alexander is a young boy who doesn't really have any friends.  He enters into a world full of magic.  His first encounter is with a "talking frog" or a Hopper.  The world is very creative and fun to read.  It is an adventure which will keep any young boy reading along.  My son is loving this book right now and he is 10.  He will write his own review of the book when he finishes.

This is the perfect book for those young boys who don't like to read long books.  It ends in such a way that will keep your young one wanting more and they will be begging for book 2.

General drake new coverThe Return of General Drake

When Alexander arrived in Verhonia, something went terribly wrong. A dark spell delivered from the mountains of Acadia sent him on a dangerous journey in the middle of the night. As he marched into the mountains, the great city of Verhonia was ambushed and burned to the ground by Roman's army of vicious giant murks. With the safety of the realm in jeopardy, General John William Drake was asked to come back to Azra's Pith. He swore he would never return. But after discovering his son was under a spell and in the grips of a dark sorcerer, he had no choice. Things take a wild turn in the mountains, with runaways, a hungry wolf and a mysterious, young empyrean wizard thrown into the adventure. A tight race against time and evil is in full swing. With faith and a little magic, they just might come out on top.

Starting right where book 1 left off. This story continues the saga of Alexander.  He is missing and his best friend who happens to be a Hopper is worried sick about him.

I enjoyed this book because the father plays a much larger role in the story.  We get to see him in a little different light.

Like the first story this book has a fabulous cast of characters and teaches wonderful lessons about life.  I love how the characters grow in these books.

This book is perfect for Middle-schoolers and I recommend this to all parents and children.  At the ripe old age of 45 I still enjoyed this book.

Being the frizzy-haired tomboy with buck teeth gave me a slight case of shyness as a kid. A colorful imagination meant escape and adventure at the drop of a hat. Over the years I learned that the insecurities I carried around were a waste of time. I still prefer a football game to a manicure any day of the week. That indispensable imagination has found its way into my writing providing a sense of joy and a true purpose.
